Applying by email: subject, body and attachment

The short email that invites opening: subject lines, greetings and attachment rules.

An email application is not a second cover letter but a polite door-opener with an attachment.

Subject and body

  • Subject: application as X – first-name last-name, reference.
  • Body: three sentences – role, strongest argument, attachment note.
  • Signature: name, phone, city – clickable and complete.

Attachment and address

  • One PDF: the folder as a single file, never a ZIP.
  • Serious address: firstname.lastname, not school-day nicknames.
  • Test send: mail yourself first, then the employer.

Export the folder with a telling filename straight from the editor.

Frequently asked questions

Paste the cover letter into the email?

No – refer briefly; the letter is page one of the attachment.

Request a read receipt?
