Guides
Resume length: how many pages are right?
One page or two? Page-count rules by experience, industry and age – plus a trimming checklist.
Page count is not a style choice but a signal: it shows whether you can separate what matters from what does not. The rule of thumb: as short as possible, as long as necessary.
The rule by experience
- Entry level: one page – internships, education and skills always fit on one page.
- Experienced: two pages – roles with bullets, training and projects.
- Executives: three pages at most – only with long, proven responsibility.
Trimming without losing substance
- Cut old roles: jobs older than ten years shrink to a single line.
- Audit hobbies: only interests with a link to the job stay.
- Tighten layout: consistent spacing and terse bullets save half a page.
In the editor you see the page count live: the preview paginates exactly like the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Are two pages too much at entry level?
Yes, almost always. One full page beats two half-empty ones.
Does the cover letter count toward the page limit?
No. The rule covers the resume alone; cover letter and certificates come on top.
